Somater, from yesterday to today and tomorrow

In an interview with PME Radio.TV, Félix Hubin, Managing Director of the SOMATER Group, looks back at the company’s history and shares his vision for the future with Pauline Riglet-Brucy.

In particular, he explains the Group’s position on environmental issues. The emphasis is on innovation, with new packaging that is resolutely eco-designed, using recyclable or bio-sourced materials such as wood or paper fibre.

Pierre Fabre educational toothpastes

Somater has developed a 100% PE single-material tube with a lightweight 240µm skirt for the innovations of Pierre Fabre, a major player in the oral care sector and expert in pharmaceuticals and dermocosmetics.

Pierre Fabre has entrusted Somater with its Elgydium ‘educational toothpaste’ range, which includes two products designed to teach children how to brush their teeth properly from an early age. The colour of the toothpaste changes after 2 minutes when brushing is complete.

An eco-design approach
Pierre Fabre, a committed player in sustainable development, has set itself the objective of reviewing the design of its products so that they are eco-designed by 2025. The Elgydium and Arthrodont adult ranges are in turn being lightened and deployed. This single-material packaging, made by Plastuni Lisses in Essonne (91), reduces the use of virgin plastic by reducing the thickness of the skirt, while at the same time providing the barriers needed to keep the toothpaste in good condition. The tube is topped with a screw cap, also made from PE, which makes it easier to recycle.

A new stage has been taken to make the project of incorporating enzymatically recycled PET for the Biotherm brand a reality.

Last week, Biotherm’s packaging development and marketing teams visited Somater’s Mortagne-au-Perche site to validate the final material and colour tests before this new sustainable packaging goes into production.

Somater is proud to contribute to the development and launch of the world’s first cosmetic flask made from 100% enzymatically recycled PET developed by CARBIOS, and to support Biotherm in its quest for sustainable, eco-responsible packaging.

The Little Prince® at Clarins

Somater is taking part in a new range of products developed for the Clarins Group to mark the 80th anniversary of The Little Prince®.

As part of this partnership, Somater has developed a 200 ml lacquered and labelled rPET flask for Clarins’ Treatment Essence range, inspired by the famous tale. This initiative is part of Clarins’ drive to revitalise its current range by launching a limited edition that incorporates a new design with the iconic image of The Little Prince®, while promoting a circular approach and favouring recycled materials.



Composed of bottles using at least 25% recycled plastic and produced at our Plastuni Normandie site in Hautot-sur-Mer (76), this exclusive collection reflects the Clarins Group’s ongoing commitment to responsible beauty and a desire to offer eco-designed products in order to limit the brand’s environmental footprint.

Somater is proud to support its partner Clarins in this exciting project, highlighting the importance of sustainability and innovation in the cosmetics industry.

Our commitment to preserving water resources

Mindful of our impact on the environment, Somater is actively engaged in the development of responsible industrial resources.

In this World Water Day, we would like to highlight the commitment of our sites to the preservation of this resource.

This is because the polymer transformation process has the advantage of using only a limited amount of water. This water is mainly used to cool our tools and is retained in a closed loop that is reused continuously.

In addition, our sites have complied with the decree on preventing the loss of industrial plastic granules into the environment by 2023. Our teams have taken all the necessary measures, such as setting up containment, recovery and reprocessing systems for granules, and are regularly trained in pollution prevention techniques.
